[MJ isn't like all the other girls Steve has met. She's witty, fast with her clever come backs and she hasn't been one to judge him based on who he is or his reputation. She doesn't expect anything from him or have these high standards of who he's supposed to be. It's easy to just be himself around her. Well, when Hawkins isn't being invaded by horrendous monsters at least.
He enjoys her company and the way she seems to relax him. She makes him feel normal. Which is a hell of a thing to be considering being plagued by the Upside Down.
