[Steve just let's out a small sigh. ]

Come on, it'll help me sleep. [It definitely will not, but you're lucky she hasn't asked before now, Steve. It's been like three weeks.]

It all started when Will Byers went missing.

[Surely Robin had heard about it or seen the flyers. ]

And then Barb went missing....

[She forces herself to breathe slowly at that. She'd so been hoping that Barb had just taken off, the way Robin had planned to.]

So Will was in the Upside Down. [That...actually puts a lot of things into context.]

Yeah. Will missing and Barb missing brought Nancy and Jonathan together. You know, the whole shared trauma bullshit.

[She might be a lot more familiar with that these days, Steve. In practice rather than as a concept.]

Okay. And you got involved because of Nancy.

[That made a little sense at least, given the boy who went missing was best friends with Nancy's little brother and also her best friend went missing. She remembers seeing Steve and Nancy together after Will showed back up, though. At the movie theater, in fact, on what she assumed was a date. She doesn't want to press on the Nancy thing, though. She's not trying to hurt Steve.]

[Better known as one of the biggest mistakes of his life. ]

[She's quiet for a moment, thinking. Then:]

I'm still processing that monsters are real. You know, the non-human kind.

[She shifts on the couch, trying to get more comfortable but also wanting to see him, which requires sitting up a little.]

But the gate thing is closed now, right? Whatever Joyce and Chief Hopper did...closed it?

[That had also gotten Hopper killed.]

[He shifts slightly along the sofa. ]

[She watches him, then hesitantly reaches her hand out toward him, shifting closer to the edge of the couch to make space for him to lie down behind her if he wants to.]

Yeah....

[Steve is hesitant for a moment before shifting once again to join her. ]

[She rests her head back down on the pillow, biting her lip.]

Just thinking about what happens if it's opened again or whatever. I mean we killed that -- Mind Flayer. Right?
