[she rounds to face him in the emptying parking lot, maybe standing a little closer than she needs to.]

I'm trying to respect your boundaries here. So - whatever you're comfortable with, you know?

[His eyes fall along her petite body, trying to read her expression and what's going on in that brilliant mind of hers.]

Did you want to hangout so that we could have sex? You don't have to hide it if you did.

[she takes a bracing breath, nodding silently.]

I know. But I think we're past that.

[her brow furrows very slightly and she steps in to close the distance between them to kiss him briefly.]

After everything we've been through? Please.

[her eyes are searching.]

[Steve doesn't want her to feel obligated to have sex or that's something he's expecting out of all of this because it isn't.]

[it's a little huff, and she reaches up to touch his collar briefly.]

[And as he mentioned before he doesn't want things to go south because they're just being stupid teenagers.]

[she hesitates, then looks up, staring skyward. away from him, just for a moment.]

I don't know. Yes. I think so? Unless that's a problem for you.

[It's a simple question and one he feels might need a possible answer so that they both could begin to figure out things between them.]

[she sighs, pressing her hands against her face.]

[More progress was being made and that was a good sign. He doesn't know if it's wise they try to start over or if her heart is even ready for another relationship but-]

And you're fine with us casually having sex when we hangout? No getting upset or worried about us after?

I am. I mean - I think we can get past that. I'm being selfish.

[she pats steve's chest, then paces a few steps back.]

Maybe I'm being optimistic.

You are not being selfish, Nance. I just want to make sure we're both alright with the choices we make when it comes to each other. I don't want you thinking all I want is sex or something worse.

[Because again that isn't the case here]

[it would be easier for both of them, she thinks, if he really were only after sex, but she's glad he's not. it's also unfair how attractive this display of emotional intelligence from him is.]

I know that's not you. And the last thing I want is for us to hurt each other. You know that, right?

[It would be easier for them both if they just cut ties completely but that's proven to be rather difficult despite the history between them.]

I would rather we not hurt each other again if possible.
