No, I mean - you do now. And I keep asking you to hang out.

[Steve sighs softly, his head falling back against his seat.]

I know I screwed up when we were together, Nance. I screwed up a lot. I've been trying to change, be better.

[He knows it isn't much but he's attempting the effort.]

Is it difficult for you to hang out with me?

[it comes instantly, firmly.]

I just don't want you feeling like - I don't know. That you've got to hang out with me to atone for something.

[He gives another soft sigh. He doesn't know what she would like for him to say.]

You should know by now Nance that if I didn't want to hang out with you I wouldn't.

[but she seems like her fears are soothed, at least. she unclicks her seatbelt, leaning in to kiss his cheek in gratitude.]

Come on. You can get the popcorn.

[And there isn't a rule book saying they can't be friends, right? He gives a small smile at the kiss to his cheek.]

Extra butter?

[He unclicks his own belt and moves to get out of the car.]

Sounds perfect.

[the lobby is much emptier than she expects it to be, and nancy makes a thoughtful little noise.]

Guess it's not a popular movie.

[Steve's actually surprised the lobby isn't buzzing with couples using the movie as an excuse to makeout and get a little handsy.]

I'll grab the popcorn and some drinks? Any special requests?

[it's an action movie - she'd expected a throng of teen boys for some reason. she shakes her head at the question.]

Just anything. You want me to pick seats?

Sure. Meet you inside?

[That's if she's comfortable going off into the movie alone.]

[she's doing her best to push through the awkwardness, so she smiles at him and heads in to grab seats for them both. near the back, if only to put a little distance between herself and the inevitable action scenes.

he won't have trouble finding her - there aren't many other people in seats.]

[Thankfully it doesn't take him long to get through the line. It makes him a bit uneasy to know that Nancy could be sitting in the theater alone.

Thank you trauma of the Upside Down. Once he gets their snacks and drinks, he heads to the designated theater. It doesn't take long to spot her.]

[nancy actually finds herself grateful for the moment of silence, for the chance to reset, and she smiles at him as he seats himself next to her.]

[she's reaching for the popcorn.]

Figured at least some people would be here to get in a little makeout session.

[Or maybe that's the Steve Harrington way? He settles himself into the seat beside her before he hands over the popcorn.]
